Fort Columbia, August 1, 2007

We picked a perfect, sunny evening to head across the Columbia River to Fort Columbia. Surprisingly, many in our group had never been to this cool place that's so close to home. But now that it's a toll-free trip across the bridge and Washington State Parks have no day use fees, it's a great low-cost excursion.
The crew members enjoyed scrambling up rocks. Here's Steven, the mighty conqueror, in the classic Steven sweatshirt.
Steven's not really getting the help he needs here. The view is great looking toward Saddle Mountain with Astoria and the bridge in the background. Pictured (from L to R) are Matt, Bro. Doughty, J.J., Sean, and Steven.
Matt striking a dramatic pose atop a battery. Fort Columbia has several old military batteries.
Steven has joined Matt atop the battery. This is after J.J. semi-successful throw of Matt's backpack. The plastic water bottle only survived enough for Sean to discover that Matt's water tasted weird.
